Kenya Hosts the World

Mombasa hosted the 2007 IAAF Athletics Cross-country run in March. The weather was extremely hot with heat temperatures nearly 38 degrees. The entire run was held at the Mombasa golf club near the ocean. The security has very tight with Kenya police and guards even on horseback and helicopter surveillance.

Jordan and Scott went to the course to see the event. Our friend, Kurt an American said that it was, “better than the Super Bowl.” We were able to see the athletics up close and the crowd was very enthusiastic especially with the Kenya team taking first spot overall. We were so close to the course that we could almost touch teh runners. Jordan had a great time at the event.

Mombasa was very much in a state of beautification before the event. Roads were paved and lines were actually painted on the road. They also constructed road barriers with street lamps, although some are not working 2 weeks later. Citizens of Mombasa and Kenya say that they hope the government spends more money into infrastructure.
