New Years (2008) in Egypt

After spending Christmas in Kenya; Scott, Jordan and Kyle travelled to Egypt for the holiday season. It was a very unique and fascinating experience with the boys. Day 1 we departed Kenya and arrived into Cario late in the evening - we stayed at the Swiss Inn Golf Resort. Day 2- Great Pyramids of Giza (Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure). The pyramids of Giza, created an 'awe.' The civilization in the 3rd millennium BC had remarkable technology development. The boys asked the question - how could they build such a structure? The Egyptians needed extraordinary knowledge about the architecture, mathematics and astronomy. We went inside the Khafre pyramid, it was very cramped and a small area of one burial chamber. The Great Spinx, the most famous monument of ancient Egypt. This is a real symbol of past civilization. It is a lion's body and a human head carved out of limestone, which was sculpted around 2500 BC. We had lunch at McDonalds (North American comfort food). Departed from Cario to Ashwan on Egypt Air.

The next day we travelled from Luxor to Hurgarda (Red Sea). There were a caravan of approximately 50 vehicles under police escort. There were many police/security checks throughout the 4 hour drive. Arrived at the Dessert Rose Resort - absolutely fantastic resort facing the Red Sea. Celebrated New Years Eve by the Red Sea with a gala dinner and an entertainment program. We stayed in Hurdarda for 3 days. We enjoyed the site and went on a submarine to the coral reef. Enjoyed Cinnabon (North American comfort food).

Transferred back to Cario, via the Dessert Highway by transport bus - 6.5 hour ride. The boys handled this very well as they played card games and read. Spent the next day in Cario and went to the Egyptain Museum. The Egyptian antiquities, holds a collection of many items reaching back 5000 years. The highlight - King Tut and Cleopatra. Enjoyed Kentucky Fried Chicken
(North American comfort food).
