The ‘buzz’ was sill on campus after His Highness’ visit for the residential ground breaking that occurred on August 14th, 2007. As described by Mr. Salim Bhatia, “Instead of the “flagship,” one might call the Academy in Mombasa the “leading dhow” in the network. Upon arriving onto the campus after the academic term break, one will notice the amount of work that has taken place in the retro-fit as well as the residence.
A new teacher orientation welcomed faculty to the campus. Information provided allowed teachers to feel more comfortable in their upcoming duties and navigating the campus. Wednesday saw all teachers back at the school for a full day of PD.
The major theme of the day evolved around team building and creating a sense of a whole school learning community. Activities started off with a staff breakfast followed by a small group activity, which supplied a challenging task of creating an apparatus, with minimal supplies, to protect a raw egg that would be dropped from the school balcony. Team work, the competitive spirit and lots of laughs were enthusiastically observed. ‘Great Eggspectations’ and ‘Octo-Egg-le-mont’ were two examples of team names.
