A new concept in the Senior School is assembly held by a department. As it was the beginning of the term, the Dean of Students (Karin Clough) and Dean of Faculty (Scott), were assigned to arrange the assembly for second week. Not a lot of time – but it was fun planning. We asked a group of Year 7 and Year 8 students to volunteer their time on this project. The students put together a power point presentation on the following:
UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME (UNEP)
Prince Albert II of Monaco – “The year of the dolphin gives me the opportunity to renew my firm commitment towards protecting marine biodiversity. With this strong initiative we can make a difference to save these fascinating marine mammals from the brink of extinction.”
According to Greek mythology, dolphins are the mediators between gods and men. Dolphins illustrate of the links between culture and nature, cultural and biological diversity, as their life cycle is linked with Man’s culture and behavior. They are the link between air and water and bring man closer to marine life and our precious blue planet.
YOUTH IN ENVIRONMENTAL ACTIVITIES
A long-term strategy for encouraging young people in environmental activities and the work of UNEP was called TUNZA. The word derived from eastern Africa “to treat with care and affection.”
