The Long Plane Journey

The depth and breadth of the decision became evident, as it was difficult to say good-bye to our parents/grandparents. There was mixed emotions of excitement, anticipation, and trepidation – the safety and wellness of all of us especially the children. Upon our arrival in London there was very large signs that indicated there was extra security and police due to last months terrorist attacks.

It was a long journey with 3 flights totaling over 20 hours, but it was a safe and basically uneventful, although there is always concerns about arriving into new countries and obtaining our Visiting Visa from Kenya immigration as our working Visas were still not complete. There were no problems with the plane transfer in Nairobi to Mombasa (different terminal and Immigration) to being picked up at the airport by personnel from the school. Although a few tense worries from Scott, for the most part an uneventful trip. The children were excellent travelers and Kenyon Airways were excellent for the international flight from London. Each passenger had their own program selector from movies to children’s shows to documentaries about Africa.

We had a 1 day stay over in London – interesting with the opposite driver and traffic. When we were walking to our last McDonald meal for a while, there are signs and markings on the side walk pointing to the direction to look – that helped us Canadians for sure. The children, especially Ty loved the double Decker buses. When Ty was on Jordan’s shoulders walking, Ty would say he was a double decker.
