Kilifi Day Trip

During the half-term break, there was an unusual amount of rain that flooded parts of the road in and out of Mombasa. It also made driving poor in the city. One day we went to an area called Kilifi, approximately 60 minutes away from Mombasa. We stopped at a hotel in the area that looked over a creek and the ocean – beautiful setting!

It was an over cast day and was raining as well. Some of the land and houses we drove by were under water. The road in spots was water soaked but passable. We were not worried with our 1993 Toyota Corolla Estate Wagon (well maybe just a bit at times).

Mombasa Old Town Visit

During the half-term break the family spent a few hours in Old Town Mombasa near Fort Jesus. It is a very old city with very intriguing people, architecture and sights. The pictures are of our little tour.

Tumaini Children's Home

Tait, Jordan, and Scott went to visit the Tumaini Children’s Home, which is a home established in January of 2006 for orphan children diagnosed with HIV. Currently they have 16 children (9 boys and 7 girls) aged from 6 months – 6 years. The plan is for a full facility of 60 children with an attached school for them to attend. At present, they do not have any medical support at the home, but renovations and donations are being established to provide daily medical care if required. If medical support is required, the children are transported to a local children’s facility.

This was a very special visit that showed us the meaning of humanity, compassion, and empathy.

Eid and Diwali Celebrations

During the half-term break we attended two celebrations of Eid and Diwali. This is a very special time of year for the Muslimism and Hindu community. The celebration consisted of traditional dances, different types of food and many fireworks. What was very interesting is that the first few hours of the evening people brought their own fireworks to use. The evening ended with a spectacular firework displayed that last approximately 15 minutes. The last evening we went out for Chinese food – Ty wanted to dress like his father – matching orange shirts!

Going Out Canadaian Style

The

Mcleans and Fentons (Rob and Jennifer – neighbors and Canadians) went out Canadian style. We first started for a cocktail and beers at our favorite pub called the Container. After that we ate at an Italian restaurant called Miliano and then saw an acrobatic show where we joined in for a few cart wheels and danced the night away.

Watch out ladies! Brenda also bought some high fashion footwear from Benjamin (from the car trunk), a shoe salesman, who I also bought the car from. He is a multi-talented and mulit-tasked guy! Brenda can not wait to show off her purchases at the lake this summer in Saskatchewan.

Brenda's Assembly

On Friday October 6th, Brenda held an assembly on her Gymnastics Unit. She had over 25 students performing various individual and teamwork routines. The children really enjoyed the activities as they performed in front of the entire Junior School and parents. Ty is the child on the top of the pyramid.

My favorite relative is my dad.
My dad loves the sun.
His hobby is to go to Hawaii.
He likes Africa better than Canada.
He reminds me of David Beckham.
He is pretty good at football and he likes it.
When he gets mad he looks like an Owl.
My dad is really funny. Everyone says that he is.
His favorite food is Caesar salad.
He is 41 years old. He has golden hair and blue eyes.
His favorite song is from Five for Fighting.

Year 7 CAMP-OUT

To begin the year in Senior School, the Year 7 students and faculty had a campout on the school campus. They had many cooperative games and exercises. From all accounts it was lots of fun with very little sleep. In fact, Jordan fell asleep in the car ride home and slept most of the day and evening.
