Our Canadian Neighbors

When we arrived in Africa our accomodation was arranged by the school. Our grounds, pool area, and security are shared. We were infomed that our neighbours were also from Canada. Our new friends are the FENTONS - Jennifer is the Year 4 Classroom teacher (she is Tait's teacher) and her husband Rob. They have two children - Alex (Missy) aged 5 and Sam aged 7. Being neighbours with fellow Canadians has been a very nice transition for both family.

We shared Thanksgiving day together and are looking forward to celebrating Canada Day with them before we departure back to Canada for the summer break.

The Funky Monkey Statue

This is by far the most liked, enjoyed, and laughed about statue. It is very near the school and we pass it daily to and from home. Notice the sunglasses on the monkey!

The Aga Khan Academy

Here are pictures of the school and the children in their uniforms. It is absolutely beautiful and is surrounded by the ocean. The children were not too keen on the uniform except Ty who wanted to wear it to bed with him. As you can see, the shirts are white which makes it difficut to clean especially when the children play sports in their sports clubs at the school.

Some of the photos are specifically related to their class. Tait has a photo of a hero presentation she completed at it was on GREY OWL. She was very pleased to explain to her class and parents why he was such a hero. Jordan's class performed at a Junior assemmbly. They were describing what type of intelligence/learning style they were more comfortable. Jordan was considerd BODY SMART.

Scott's office is over looking the school yard and has a great view. Plenty of sunshine with a small view of the Indian Ocean.

Jordan's First Junior Basketball Game

Jordan is a team member of the Aga Khan AcademyJunior Basket ball Team. On October 13, 2005 Jordan and the rest of the team played Sea Crest Academy from Diani Beach. It was a close game with the Agh Khan out scoring the visitors 16-12. It was very interesting to see as there was about 40 Junior students who were spectaors and cheered like they were watching the Flames in the Stanlep Cup Finals. We will keep you posted on the teams' results... NOTE: Jordan's team is in the white jerseys.

Jordan becomes Certifiied Suba Diver

Jordan spent many hours in the classroom, studying, and diving in order to receive his Junior Suba Diving Card. Although one is to be 12 years of age, he was viewed as a very strong swimmer. Jordan went on 4 dives, which included 2 inside and 2 open dives. He really enjoyed the dives and overall experience. He even said on his second dive that it was 'his best day ever.' Jordan was able to see a shark, from a distance, octopus, sword fish, sea turtle, electric eel, and of course many different sizes and types of fish. Brenda also re-cretified so she can go with Jordan on the dives.

Jordan's next adventure will be some time over the term break. We will keep you posted.

Birthday Wishes and the Tooth Fairy Arrives in Kenya

Does the Tooth Fairy travel the world? Three of the children have lost teeth (Jordan, Tait, and Kyle) and received some Keyan Shillings under the pillow. Ty can not wait for the magic to continue for him.

Tait (turned 9 years) and Ty (turned 5 years) were the first family members to celebrate their birthday in Kenya. More to come, especially for MaMa (Brenda) as she turns 40 this year. I know that I am not to divulge her age - but the big celebration is this year in December.
