Grandparents (Nanny and Bapa)Arrive December 07, 2005

We were all very excited to have Ken and Dani arrive in sunny Kenya. Their trip from Canada included a brief stay over for a week in London to visit some friends. Their flight to Mombasa was uneventful. Jordan, Ty, and Scott greeted them at the airport. The first stop was the school so that the Tait, Klye and Brenda could have a brief visit before Brenda drove them to our house. Their first thoughts/feelings were very excited to see the family, the crazy driving – especially down centre, and how hot it is in Africa.

Day Excursions

The McLean family has had wonderful opportunities to travel near Mombasa to teh south and north coast as well as to parks and toursits spots for locals and international travelers. In September there was the annual Agricultural Show, similar to the Calgary Stamped in that they have many displays, shows and games for the children. The day we went was over 30 C temperature. We saw authentic African dances, ate African food and played some games. Also there were rides, but truly did not look very safe. Momba Village (Crocodile Park) with over 500 crocodiles we visited in September. Another visit was to Hallier Park with many different types of animals, but the highlight was feeding the girafees. The McLean even tried crocodile (see pictures above) – it tastes like chicken at first, then fish, and then like sawdust, but at least we tried it.

End of Unit/Term Break Celebrations

The first week of December the school will be closed for the term break. The children were involved in many activites and presenations. Ty's presentations, on different days, to the parents were on modes of transportaion (Ty completed and presented how he made the airplane) and on the different religious celebrations with some songs. They performed Jingle Bells - Ty was a bell ringer. It was difficut to be thinking about Jingle Bells when the sun was shinning with a temperature of 35 C. Tait's class presentated at the whole school assembly. The students went on a field trip a month ago and presented ton the ecosystem of the Marine Park.
